MODULE OUTLINES
This module introduces the students to fundamentals of communication. Today communication is a part of our everyday life. It is all around us. Thus, the purpose and benefits of communication are also discussed here. The different types of communication like inter-personal, intra-personal and mass communication are also discussed. The communication process has various elements like the sender, receiver, noise, coding, decoding, etc. which are also discussed in this module. You will also learn about reading and listening skills.
The second module explains the meaning and significance of Mass Communication, the concept of mass culture, and the different forms of mass communication or mass media in our society. It presents an interface between the intra-personal communication and mass communication. The functions of mass communication and the impact or influence of Mass Communication on the society are discussed, along with the different theories of mass communication, with emphasis on the four major Theories of the Press propounded by Fred Siebert, Theodore Peterson & Wilbur, Schramm. The module also focuses on the various tools or the media of mass communication, and analyzes the effect of mass communication on the modern society.
This module covers the growth, importance and dimensions of journalism. Nature of news, news value and the various elements like orientation, perspective, objectivity and fairness are also discussed in this unit. The module also focuses on various aspects of celebrity journalism and the development and importance of news agencies for the growth of journalism. Three modes of daily journalism and new approaches to Journalism are also discussed.
This module presents the principles and elements of photography in newspaper. You will also learn about the different photographic equipments and how to use these in the assignments of photojournalism. Different types of photography are also discussed. You will also learn about various aspects of news value in photography, the impact of technology, field assignments and their evaluation.
This module explains the basic principles of reporting, and discusses the techniques of news writing. You will learn about the qualities of a good reporter along with the techniques applied in reporting. The pitfalls and problems encountered while reporting are also explored. The module also discusses the different beats and types of reporting. You will learn about the requirement and need of editing in journalism, the editing procedures and different people associated with editing in newspaper organization like the sub-editor and the chief sub-editor, focusing on the various functions and qualifications of a sub-editor and chief-sub editor. The module explains the structure and functions of the newsroom, and discusses the various types and techniques of headlining.
This module deals with the concepts and processes of editing. It also covers the basic editorial set-up of a daily newspaper organization. You will learn what goes into the news room. The module also deals with the basic functions of the news editor and others like the Chief Reporter & Other Reporters, Correspondents, Stringers, Freelancers. It talks about the sources from where the stories come, all the editing processes, newsroom workflow, copy writing, news evaluation and news editing.

Aspects of Language Skills for News Desk, Writing the Headline, Newspaper Make Up, Pages Design & Layout, Front Page Planning, etc. are discussed in detail.

Yes. The course curriculum is from the National Institute of Mass Communication, India, recognized by California University, USA (Foreign Credentials Evaluation) as per CU-FCE Certificate of Recognition (CU8772-01-3118, January 30, 2018). See Certificate here.
Successful students of this course “shall be eligible for further education worldwide“. Certificate is awarded jointly by CIMC and NIMC. The course is also recognized by the University Grants Commission.
There are no academic prerequisites for admission. The online course is open to students of all backgrounds who are 18 years of age and older. Proficiency in English language is expected, as the study material is in English.
